About The Greatest Showman
The Greatest Showman is a 2017 American musical film directed by Michael Gracey in his directorial debut, written by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon and starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. The film is inspired by the story of P. T. Barnum's creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus and the lives of its star attractions.
The movie is driven by its music, written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Oscar- and Tony-winning songwriting duo behind Dear Evan Hansen and La La Land. Most of the songs feel more like Top 40 pop than show tunes, and they’re infectious. The soundtrack, released two weeks before the film’s theatrical debut, spent multiple weeks in the No. 1 slot on the Billboard album charts.
Orphaned, penniless but ambitious and with a mind crammed with imagination and fresh ideas, the American Phineas Taylor Barnum will always be remembered as the man with the gift to effortlessly blur the line between reality and fiction. Thirsty for innovation and hungry for success, the son of a tailor will manage to open a wax museum but will soon shift focus to the unique and peculiar, introducing extraordinary, never-seen-before live acts on the circus stage. Some will call Barnum's wide collection of oddities, a freak show; however, when the obsessed showman gambles everything on the opera singer Jenny Lind to appeal to a high-brow audience, he will somehow lose sight of the most important aspect of his life: his family. Will Barnum risk it all to be accepted?
About the Masterclass
Join us for a 2-hour Masterclass as we dive into the musical world of The Greatest Showman!
Our Musical Director from the West End will guide you through a fabulous explorative musical experience for all levels, working on two beautiful numbers from the musical:
'From Now On' and 'A Million Dreams'.
You will be provided all learning materials in advance on this Workshop so you can choose which vocal part you'd like to sing (providing mp3 harmony tracks, lyric sheet and the sheet music).
By booking a seat at this exciting Masterclass it also allows us to see what interest there is to host more West End Musical Choir events in Colchester!
