James Cleeve

Projects include: Yank! The Musical (Hope Mill Manchester & Charing Cross Theatre), Alice in Sunderland (National Theatre Workshop), Ushers (Arts Theatre West End & The Other Palace), Avenue Q (Windsor Theatre Royal), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Arts Theatre), Into the Woods (LAMDA) and tours of The Sound of Music (Associate MD). I’ve also played in the pit in for Top Hat (West End), and numerous national and international tours.

I also regularly MD on the London cabaret circuit and onboard cruises, with singers including Dillie Keane, Liza Pulman, Rachel Tucker, Wendi Peters and Claire Sweeney.

As a Composer, I won the Iris Theatre Xmas Factor Award in 2018, and my commissions include Emilia (licensed by Nick Hern books), Pinocchio (Orange Tree Theatre Richmond), Beginnings (for the 30-piece London Accordion Orchestra) and various projects for ENO Baylis. I’m also currently writing two new musicals.

I’m a strong advocate for music education and outreach, and I regularly work as a choral leader and MD with the Southbank Centre, Shakespeare’s Globe, ENO, The Young Vic, The West End Musical Choir, and the top London drama colleges.
